India's first
school voucher programme was launched in New Delhi
to demonstrate to the government, the impact of voucher
system of education in India. The programme is also an
attempt to gauge and present to the government, the demand
among the citizens for this kind of education funding.
Through mobile vans playing songs and radio jingles, the
message of school choice is being taken to over 2.5 million
people in four low-income group dominated districts of
Delhi. Pressure-groups are gaining ground across the city.
Elected representatives specially the newly elected
councilors are being briefed about
School Choice.
Volunteers are distributing voucher application forms to
each household. The filled-in application forms will be
collected, of which 400 recipients of the school vouchers
will be selected through a public lottery system.
