With a globalised market and an increasingly expanding basket of consumer goods as well as industrial residues, waste management is key to sustaining economic growth with better standard of living. Waste management practices cannot solely be made a State responsibility. There is growing evidence that technological solutions, market-driven ventures and economic avenues pertaining to waste recycling and energy production, have contributed immensely to managing urban and rural waste. The challenge is to ensure regulatory ease and a conducive environment for such waste management policies to attain fruition.
